    About Independent

Independent is an invitational art fair devised by and for gallerists, which reexamines traditional methods of presenting, viewing, and experiencing contemporary art. The selected participants represent the art world’s most creative and inspired curatorial visions from a cross section of emerging, mid-career and established programs from around the world. Now in its ninth year, Independent has a rotating participant network of over 240 galleries from 47 cities worldwide.

    Independent New York
Independent New York takes place every March at Spring Studios in TriBeCa under the curatorial direction of
Independent’s founding Creative Advisor, Matthew Higgs. Featuring 40+ international galleries and non-profit institutions, the exhibition includes a focus on solo and site-driven projects, as well as a curated rotation of newcomers each year. Independent New York will take place March 8-11, 2018.

    Independent Brussels
Independent Brussels is the fair’s first edition outside of New York. Taking place during a city-wide contemporary arts week every April, the international fair features 70+ international galleries and nonprofit members at the Vanderborght Building in the historic center of Brussels. Independent Brussels will take place April 2018.

    Independent Régence
Independent Régence is a permanent exhibition space in Brussels that supports the programs of Independent member galleries and nonprofits throughout the year. Four times a year, an Independent member is invited to curate a special exhibition at Régence to highlight artists from their program between editions of the fair. Most recently Anthony Reynolds Gallery has shown Ian Breakwell, The Approach has shown John Stezaker, and Nature Morte presented a solo and group exhibition featuring Asim Waqif. Fall 2016 shows include, Ryan Gander, Mark Geffriaud et Cally Spooner presented by gb agency and Mark Barrow and Sarah Parke presented by Elizabeth Dee Gallery and Almine Rech Gallery. Hours: Wednesdays through Saturdays, 12–6.30pm; Rue de la Régence 67, 1000 Brussels, Belgium.
