A high school art teacher broke the Guinness World Record for the most clay pots made within an hour.
Jill Fortin surpassed the Guinness World Record for the most clay pots made in under an hour on April 22nd—though she still must submit evidence to Guinness to officially receive her title. Fortin created 261 pots, smashing the previous record of 159 pots set by Joel Cherrico of Collegeville, Minnesota, in 2016. The ceramicist has been an art teacher at Medford High School for 16 years and said the idea to break the record came to her from one of her students. “We spent about 15 minutes seeing how many we could do,” Fortin toldWAOW. “We did a trial run in October and we were able to make 209.” With the help of her student she sold the trial pots and raised $1,000 for the local food pantry. Fortin says she will be giving her winning batch of pots to kindergarteners to use in an Earth Day craft project.
