Melbourne will be the site of Australia’s largest contemporary art gallery, though the exact size has yet to be announced.

The regional government which oversees the Australian state of Victoria announced a partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) to build the country’s largest contemporary art gallery in Melbourne. The NGV Contemporary, slated for a site that currently is occupied by the 61,000-square-foot former headquarters of the brewing company Anheuser-Busch, will be the crown jewel of a major cultural hub currently under construction in the city, The Art Newspaper reported. Construction of what is being called the Melbourne Arts Precinct will be subsidized by the Victorian State Government, which is expected to contribute roughly $150 million to the project ahead of its completion in 2025.
