About
aura gallery was founded in 2000 and currently works with international artists, emerging and established Chinese artists. The program’s focus has been on intercultural approaches in various media: oil painting, Chinese ink painting, photography, calligraphy, and sculpture.
The gallery’s first location opened in Shanghai with an exhibition of Yin ZhaoYang and was soon followed by Luo QuanMu, Ji DaChun, who became significant Chinese artists of the generation. In 2003, the gallery started to work with international artists including Roger Ballen, Moriyama Daido, and Araki Nobuyoshi, and held multiple photography exhibitions.
The gallery relocated to Beijing in 2009. In 2014, the gallery took up the second location in Taipei. Known for its rigorously scouting and overseeing, and consistent quality to its program, the gallery has, over the past 16 years, continued its tradition of commissioning new scholarship and creating innovative trends in Chinese contemporary art scene. In 2016, the gallery permanently moved to Tokyo, Japan.
