Downtown for Democracy is a political action committee founded by creative people to transform cultural influence into political power. Our activism utilizes creativity to reach people, to educate and get our the vote key districts in the 2020 elections.
Downtown for Democracy was established in 2003 to engage America’s creative community. While creative people shape and influence culture, many of us were absent from the political process. Downtown for Democracy transformed our community’s cultural influence into political power: money, visibility, and votes and raised significant funds through events, art and merchandise sales. Leading up to the 2004 presidential election, we “spent” these assets to educate, register, and mobilize voters and support candidates committed to individual liberty and social justice. Downtown for Democracy relaunched in 2017—to rally progressives to combat the Trump administration’s destructive anti-democratic agenda and put the power of creative expression to work for our democracy.
