Leighton House Museum is one of London’s hidden treasures. Built for the artist and President of the R.A. Frederic, Lord Leighton it is a marvel architecturally and artistically. From the studio, purpose built to his needs, to his golden Arab Hall housing his collection of beautiful Islamic tiles it truly was a ‘private palace of art’. Despite being his home for more than 30 years it contained only one modest bedroom, the majority of the house being turned over to his collection of art. Each room of the house was designed to best reflect this collection, from Leighton’s own oils and sculptures to those of his friends such as Millais and Watts. Leighton House Museum has housed many popular exhibits including the hit exhibit Flaming June and Pre-Raphaelites on Paper.
