About
The Mattress Factory was founded in 1977, by artists, to support artists working in residence to create site-specific installations. Since then, the museum has presented and commissioned new installation and performance works by more than 750 artists.
The Mattress Factory is a museum of site-specific installations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Housed in an old mattress warehouse, the museum supports established and emerging artists in residence in creating new work. The Mattress Factory's permanent collection includes installations by Yayoi Kusama, James Turrell, Sarah Oppenheimer, Rolf Julius, Hans Peter Kuhn and more. The museum presents temporary exhibitions each year in its main gallery space and two neighboring auxiliary galleries. This is "art you can get into."
