Founded by Alberto Vicente and Marcelo Vasconcellos in 2001, Mercado Moderno has been a key player in the recent global reappraisal of and newfound appreciation for modern Brazilian design becoming one of the foremost galleries in Brazil.
Its main specialties are vintage design from 1950s to 80s, collecting incredible original pieces by Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin, Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi and José Zanine Caldas and also the freshest Brazilian contemporary design-art. Circulating among the gallery´s space, architects, interior designers and collectors can appreciate a unique array of one of a kind pieces and rare objects, painstakingly collected by the owners. By organizing reference books, debates and exhibitions, MeMo also conducts extensive work to spread Brazilian design.
