Nel gallery is situated in the centre of Cape Town, South Africa. Nel showcases contemporary art from Africa and beyond, often focusing on Southern African work. The aim is to always be as inclusive as possible, acting as a mirror to society and the issues of the day yet keeping an unwavering eye on the realities of our past. We do so in order to facilitate giving a voice to those previously rendered mute by systems of oppression, regimes that undermine, heteronormative authority and the slow violence that stalks many to this day. We have a keen interest in the emerging future, one that is global, and we want to find our voice within such an arena—exposing a wide range of artists to an expanding art conversation.
