Structural Color Gallery is a Brooklyn-based gallery devoted to elevating previously overlooked artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. Formed outside the hierarchies of the traditional art world, SC Gallery showcases art that inspires and ignites the imagination through the exploration of experimental forms.
Unlike human-made forms of pigmentation, the natural phenomenon of structural color–from which the gallery takes its name–creates vibrant hues through the microscopic scattering of light. Its effects can be seen across nature, as when light shines on the brown feathers of a peacock to reveal a dazzling array of blues and greens. Similarly, SC Gallery seeks to shine a light on the historical, political, and social context of forgotten art to evoke an array of visual reflections.
