About
Encounter superb works of modern art in a personal setting at The Phillips Collection, opened to the public in 1921. Paintings by Renoir and Rothko, Bonnard and O'Keeffe, Van Gogh and Diebenkorn are among the many stunning works that fill the museum.
The Phillips Collection, America’s first museum of Modern art, is one of the world’s most distinguished collections of Impressionist and Modern American and European art. It offers a strikingly original and experimental approach by combining works of different nationalities and periods in displays that change frequently. The setting is similarly unconventional, featuring a domestic scale and a personal atmosphere. Artists represented include Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre Bonnard, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mark Rothko, and Jacob Lawrence, among others. The permanent collection has grown to include more than 1,000 photographs and works by contemporary artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Wolfgang Laib, and Leo Villareal.
