3Arts and 6018North present VIP: Very Important Performances
Employing graffiti, monologues, brick laying, book making, and a procession, VIP: Very Important Performances – in the floor above the fair – presents diverse expression not as spectacle, but as creative fuel for artists challenging artistic and social norms. Within VIP’s democratic lounge, Miguel Aguilar and Chris Silva turn the walls into graffiti canvases; Amanda Williams presents rehabilitated bricks; Fawzia Mirza disrupts Donald Trump’s Islamophobia; and Rashayla Marie Brown and Folayemi Wilson have a say on professional pay and artistic agency while Regin Ingloria chronicles the proceedings through artists’ books. By joining in these performances, VIP invites you to co-create a more equitable art world.

6018North and 3Arts Institutional History

6018North is an artist-centered, non-profit platform and dynamic venue for innovative and experimental art and culture in Chicago. We challenge what art is, whom it's created with and for, and where and how it's created. Founded in 2011, 6018North champions the creation of adventurous work that connects multiple disciplines and audiences while promoting artistic excellence. We support emerging local and international artists to create innovative, multidisciplinary work that connects artists and audiences in transformative ways. From site-specific installations to interactive performances and communal events, 6018North's unique encounters with art in intimate settings -- at home in its mansion in Chicago's diverse Edgewater neighborhood and away in other non-traditional spaces across the City and internationally -- incubate new ways of creating and experiencing art to advance Chicago's artistic community, move the field forward, and reinvigorate the public through intimate engagement with artists and their expressions.

3Arts is a nonprofit organization that advocates for Chicago’s women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities who work in the performing, teaching, and visual arts. By providing cash awards, project funding, residency fellowships, professional development, and promotion, 3Arts helps artists take risks, experiment, and build momentum in their careers. 3Arts recognizes that art is essential to the wellbeing and vibrancy of our lives and is dedicated to the artists whose work shapes, shifts, and touches our lives.
