Filser & Gräf, Gallery for art and design, and Caroline Cole (ACC Art) are honored to host the European premiere of „(In) between“ - artworks by New York artist Hermann Mejía. The Munich solo show will be followed by exhibitions in London and New York, culminating with a major retrospective in August 2016 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas, Venezuela (MACC). Mejía has Venezuelan roots and has been recognized as one of Venezuela’s 15 most important artists of all time.
Based in New York, Hermann Mejía’s first foray into art was as teenager through the Caracas street art movement when he received his first commission at the age of 15. Whilst his work has been shown around the world from the US to Australia, this is his first solo show in Europe.
The artist himself says about his work:
»I am attracted to tension, both as a method and as a sensation. It is only in a state of tension that I find myself face- to-face with a state that is real, without positivism, without messages, an honest state of being: a blurry state, uncovered from among juxtaposed images, forms, colours, and textures.«
This quote captures the essence of Hermann’s work. It contains different layers of information
that is related to the artist, his past, his culture, his environment and his artistic influences.
We are proud to have the MUGICA foundation as a sponsor for this exhibition and thank them for their support.
