Steven Spazuk and Federico Uribe have each found their artistic voice by presenting natural forms through separate and unconventional media. Steven Spazuk uses a candle as his paintbrush, directing the flame's black smoke to produce silhouettes of his figures. He then carefully brushes the soot away to reveal each composition. Federico Uribe abandons art-making utensils in favor of assembling ordinary objects into life like sculptures. Both of these artists have perfected their craft and use their respective media to portray powerful messages, which they wish to leave to the viewer to interpret. The title of the exhibition, like "smoke and mirrors" - a classic illusionary technique - references the mysterious and magic quality of these artists' creations. We hope that you enjoy the collaboration, and the works inspire you to look beyond the surface of everyday life.
