NEW YORK, NY: AFA is pleased to announce the start of its fall exhibition season with paintings by Anne Bachelier and Jean Pierre Arboleda and sculpture by Pierre Matter. The exhibition will feature new collections of work inspired by cosmogony, the study of the origin of the universe.
Cosmogonies explores the work of three artists whose subconscious minds strive to discover visual harmony in the physical world. The paintings and sculptures will provoke consideration through work that is rooted in organic surrealism from a possible moment in our future. The collective works, like the science of cosmogony, attempts to explain our place in the universe with a core theory born from what is real coupled with what has been imagined.
Jean Pierre Arboleda was born in Quito, Ecuador and moved to New York as a young adult. He holds a BFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts and a Master’s Degree from New York Academy. Arboleda’s love for animals and nature is as apparent in his work as is his mastery of detail. Through his work, Arboleda comments on social issues relating to the impact of humans on the natural world.
Anne Bachelier was born in Louvigne du Desert, France. Her work features themes of metamorphosis, transition, and evolution against the highly imaginative landscapes she brings to life in her paintings. Her metaphysical, dream-like fantasies evoke feelings of power, peace, and protection. Bachelier’s unique “other” world, untouched by time or place, is reminiscent of the eternal dance of transformation and regeneration.
Pierre Matter was born in Munster, France, and he continues to live and work in the Loire Valley. He has been referred to as the father of the Steampunk movement because his bronze sculptures are often embellished with scrap metal and recycled and found objects. Matter’s labor-intensive work requires welding, plasma cutting, laser cutting, and grinding before the patina process can begin.
The exhibition will be on view from September 14th, 2016 through October 9th, 2016. An opening reception will be held on September 15th, 2016 6:00-8:00 PM. On the following Saturday, a performance and book signing with all three artists is scheduled from 3:00-5:00PM. Please direct press inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org.
