HUA Chien-Chiang Solo Exhibition- Painting Becoming
If painting before this exhibition is an action to concentrated varied experiences in the two-dimensional spaces, then in this exhibition, the artist is attempted to use it to execute the same action but as the start to shift from “a blank canvas as a blank canvas” to “sculpture, video, and even time as a blank canvas.”
AKI Gallery is pleased to present Painting Becoming, a long waited exhibition of works by HUA Chien-Chiang. We invited well-known curator CHIN Ya-Chu to curate this exhibition which will show series of new works the artist created in recent years. With a brand new concept conceive by curator and artist, this exhibition not only focus on artwork itself, but also lead to the verifying process occurred during the creation process of the artist to his works, his life and surrounded environment. Under the perspective of viewing the artist as a producer, the artworks highlight the trace of time the artist has put in for creation. HUA is marvelous at applying gouache as medium in his paintings. He always thinks outside the box and operates reversely to examine the relationship between present and past. As the curator described “this divergence is not to overthrow, but to embrace and create more possibility. If we say that deviating from established experience is the starting point for producing Hua's painting style, then perhaps deviating from painting forms will sooner or later become his next experience.”
As the topic of this exhibition Painting Becoming, this exhibition connects all future paths HUA attempt to start, through the use of medium such as sculpture, video, and installation, it reconstruct the exited space but also response to the root of painting the artist desires to delve into and point the path for painting in the future!
