Donna Flax: Star Narratives: No beginning and no end
This will be Donna Flax’s first one person show in five years. She will be exhibiting more of her moody, wondrous, starry sky paintings. These rich paintings fascinate the viewer with their intricate obsessive details. Some with lyrical titles such as “Quiet night in the celestial sea” take us far from our own earthly bound existence into someplace more sublime. Flax has lived in Provincetown since 1982. She had her first exhibition at the Albert Merola Gallery in 1991.
Timothy Woodman: The Sea
Timothy Woodman is presenting painted riveted aluminum sculptures. A master at his craft, he has been exhibiting since the 1970’s. The theme of the sea has been a constant throughout much of his life and work. An avid surfer and swimmer, Woodman has previously shown work based on the subjects of Moby Dick, The Old Man and the Sea, and Fauna. Beginning with drawing, Woodman cuts sheets of aluminum, and then rivets the pieces, the rivets being integral parts of the whole. It is his sure hand at painting that then completes and reveals the final work. Woodman’s work is in the collections of many museums, among them The Hirshhorn and Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, The Metropolitan Museum, NY and others.
