Arcadia Contemporary is proud to present "Works on Paper," a collection of works that embodies the versatile nature of paper. All pieces presented call into question the role of paper as a surface, or as an active participant, whose negative space is a subject in of itself.
Opening Reception: Friday, Aug. 14th, 6pm -Tuesday, Aug. 4th, 9pm
Arcadia Contemporary is proud to present “Works on Paper,” a collection of works that embodies the versatile nature of paper. Featured artists include Casey Baugh, Rick Berry, Candice Bohannon, Kim Cogan, Sam Wolfe Connelly, Matthew Cornell, Brad Kunkle, Jeremy Lipking, Stephen Mackey, Alessandra Maria, Gregory Mortenson, Julio Reyes, Mario A. Robinson, Jordan Sokol, Dorian Vallejo, Aron Wiesenfeld, and many more. United in their materiality, these diverse works represent manifold techniques and methods of representation in contemporary art.
From the painted scrolls of early China to the etchings mass-distributed by the printing press, paper has long been a quick, transportable medium for art. The works presented here expose the ephemerality of paper across a wide spectrum, from the airy, gestural works of Casey Baugh to the richly layered narrative paintings of Stephen Mackey. All pieces presented call into question the role of paper as a simple surface or as a medium in and of itself.
Also included are seventeen works presented in collaboration with Moleskine - SoHo. Moleskine, the legendary notebook favored by the likes of Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, equips a new generation of artists, presented here at Arcadia Contemporary. Each custom-made notebook contains a unique work of art, detachably mounted within. These works have become autonomous in their own right, and the notebooks that encase them are mementos of this first-ever collaboration between Moleskine- SoHo and Arcadia Contemporary.
“Works on Paper” opens on August 14th, with a reception from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and runs through August 31st. For additional information and images, please contact [email protected].
