Arco Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Asia leading art fair Fine Art Asia, Hong Kong, presenting a one man show of French Artist Pierre Sernet’s most recent body of works, his Synonyms series.
In this series Sernet shows Women and Men, alone or in couples, embracing or making love, intimately photographed through scrims. What is rendered in the artworks is the flow of one body into the next through the fleeting forms of their shadows.
The artist selected subjects from various cultural or ethnic backgrounds to convey common denominators among different people from around the world. The artwork title offers the only hints to the subjects’ sex, cultural background or origin.
As with a Rorschach test what is perceived depends upon the mental disposition of the viewer and his cultural background.
Pierre Sernet conceived these works to be presented individually or in groups to create a dance or a dialogue that recalls Greek black-figure vases or Matisse cut outs.
Fine Art Asia is held from October 4-7, 2019. This year’s show will be held in conjunction with The Masterpiece Pavilion launching this year at Fine Art Asia 2019, and bringing the renowned London art fair’s established vision of cross-collecting to Hong Kong. Also included with this year’s fine Arts Asia will be the fifth edition of INK ASIA, the fair specializing in ink art.
