In the coming spring ARKEN will be swarming with fur and paws. The exhibition Animals in Art will invite visitors into art’s animal kingdom, with its wealth of beautiful, strange and incredible creatures: from camels to kittens, from feathered friends to cute pets. The exhibition will show sculpture and installation, video, photography and paintings by many international artists who explore our human ways of studying, categorizing, living with and exploiting animals – and how we thus attempt to understand ourselves better as human beings.
At the exhibition you can for example stand face to face with Paola Pivi’s enchanting neon-coloured polar bears with feathered fur; see Youtube cats play atonal piano pieces by Arnold Schoenberg, and gain a new perspective on the artificial environments of the Zoo. Animals in Art presents works by Cory Arcangel, John Baldessari, Sophie Calle, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Martin Eder, Annika Eriksson, Laura Ford, Douglas Gordon, Candida Höfer, Paul McCarthy, Paola Pivi, David Shrigley, William Wegman and many others.
