Happiness has been illusive for Soeun Park. She has spent the most part of her life pursuing in vain for the perfect happiness. The chance of an artist-in-residence programme in the United States gave her the opportunity to explore deeply into this life-long desire of hers and through her interviews with a group of children from different nationalities she has finally come to terms with herself as well as getting answers to questions such as: Is happiness a personal desire or a societal construct? If society changes, will personal definition of happiness change with it? Is happiness an illusion or fantasy imposed by society? And how changeable is this conception of happiness? She says that she has embodied the answers and the process of discovery in her recent series of paintings.
