ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Past Embracing the Present is a group exhibition that includes Hyemin Lee, Kwang Young Chun and Meesook Lee. Artworks in the show concentrate on the transcendence of working with materials imbued with personal and cultural meaning. For Hyemin Lee, scraps of old dresses are repurposed as small permanent art objects to create a reminder of the feminine world in a disposable and material age. Kwang Young Chun's work uses very old mulberry paper from Korean texts folded intricately and colored to create vibrant textural landscapes that speak to cultural pasts and their place and meaning in modernity. Meesook Lee's work uses natural objects in modern and sleek shapes and colors to address the origins of humanity and our return to a maternal spring.
