A site-specific sound installation in the upper car park of the relocated New Covent Garden Market, Georgina Hill reconstructs the original New Covent Garden Flower Market, as it was until demolition in 2017. Three-dimensional field recordings and eyewitness accounts rebuild the market and its ecosystem in a partial way, depriving the senses of a complete revival. As the piece unfolds participants experience a sense of limbo between a past they hear but cannot recapture, and the present day. The work conveys the changing nature of the area, with its many embedded architectural and personal histories, and reflects on civic acceleration and evolution.
