In her work, Li Jingfei explores the universal theme of ‘time’ and the effect of people's actions on the passing of time. This topic is so broad that the viewer risks getting lost. But at the same time the top is neutral enough to be like a scientific statement. In this exhibition featuring photography, video and installation, Li Jingfei depicts time as a visible entity. Light and photons flash on the photographic paper and lead our retina to feel both a sense of permanence and impermanence at the same time.
The immediacy of time virtually renders us incapable of recognizing the traces of our own existence. The stronger we resist, the more time exerts its power on us; no matter how tangible the traces we have left behind, eventually they will be wiped inexorably away. We were born in time, we will die in time and all we ultimately have is just a transient interim of time.
