AT FOTOFEVER PARIS 2018
PARIS PHOTO WEEK 2018
In November 2018, Arte Globale showcases the exciting new works by Eriko Kaniwa and Yener Torun during PARIS PHOTO week 2018.
London, 15 October 2018 — Arte Globale is excited to announce its participating in the seventh edition of fotofever in Paris, taking place from 8 - 11 November 2018. The gallery’s showcase at the fair will mark the first-ever presentation of the new spectacular works by Tokyo-based photographer Eriko Kaniwa. In addition, the gallery booth will feature the amazing urban works from the ‘Symbiotes’ series by emerging, Istanbul-based photographer Yener Torun.
Eriko Kaniwa works presented at fotofever Paris during Paris Photo 2018 span from the Spiritual Landscapes series to the Japanese Myths. The artist explains: ‘Even today, many landscapes exist in Japan that symbolise nature worship. Extending from north to south in a long, thin constellation of islands, the Japanese archipelago is blessed with four distinct seasons and an abundance of fresh water, mountains, and sea. Here, appreciating the beauty of nature is a cultural tradition. I am affectionately proud of the values that have flourished within this natural context: the wabi-sabi aesthetic of imperfection and impermanence; the pursuit of subtle grace; the awareness that humans are a part of nature and are deeply entwined with its dynamics, both consciously and unconsciously. I wonder if this philosophical culture, characterised by empathy with nature, evolved not first and foremost from the natural landscape itself, but rather from the contemplation and perspectives of those who viewed it.’
Symbiotes is the latest sensational series by Yener Torun. The artist uses photography in a unique way transforming the urban landscape, creating an alternative reality by detaching elements from their original environment and repurposing them. In Symbiotes Torun focuses on geometry and color and the relationships between separate structures. Yener Torun frames different objects in way that they compliment each other, building, lampposts, structuring an imaginary place, which would not be otherwise if one of these objects were omitted. The object and the spaces benefit each other's existence just like they were in a symbiotic relationship. Ultimately depth is used as a device to define and emphasise these relationships.

About the artists
Eriko Kaniwa’s art photographs are centred on the philosophical relations between the natural and the human condition. Photography is for the artist beauty and art, which overcome the obstacles of language and distance, allowing us to experience, express, and share a feeling of respectful awe, as well as the moving realisation that human beings exist as just one part of planet Earth.
Eriko Kaniwa’s conceptually defines her medium part of the message: photography is a way of experiencing life profoundly, through the visual aesthetics’ sensations.
Her first photo book “JOKEI: Symbols of Nature Worship, Sacred Places in Japan.” 2017, was highly awarded. She won the Neutral Density Photography Award 2017 and Sony World Photography Awards 2017-2018 Commended Photographer among others.
Yener Torun's (Istanbul 1982) art-photography compositions focus on the relations between space and the experience we have in it. Conceptually the artist transforms the urban landscape, reframing architecture as geometric abstraction, creating an alternative reality. After studying architecture, Yener Torun started a photography project focusing on lesser known buildings and side streets. Since then his work has been featured in major publications such as The Guardian, The Washington Post, CBS News, establishing him as one of the most interesting emerging artists of today. His body of work has been showcased and collected worldwide. Recently a selection of his works where exhibited by the gallery at the prestigious Zsonamaco Foto 2018. His work sold out in the first hour of the preview evening.
