The exhibition showed Paintings and Paperworks, realized in the years 2014/2015 by the young Paintress Maria Schumacher, who graduated 2011 from the "Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst" in Leipzig, studying with Prof. Neo Rauch and Prof. H.C. Ottersbach.
Maria Schumacher about her work in the show: "In general, my painting is self-referential. It is a drawing field that references, negates, reveals and conceals the course of its creation. I act partly transparent and delicate, partially covering and rabid, for example by old oil layers are removed with the grinder. This procedure unifies the image area again, but traces and color residues remain from all previous work steps as small particles. The'biography of the picture` emerges. The creative process itself is always in the foreground, whereby this is not only thematized in further steps, but also commented on and "recycled". Recycling here means reacting to leftovers and previous (dubious) decisions. Every gesture, every working step and every new layer in the picture is questioned and in the end only contributes as a fraction to the visible whole. Frequently checked in this way levels, which are often sealed with a spontaneous gesture, as a kind of signature, generate the image. By revealing the process of creation, my paintings remain open. They talk about their fictitious end or conversely about their possible infinity."
