Pop Art Shakeup
New art exhibition Pop Art Shakeup opens July 11, 2015 at Artspace Warehouse. Featured artists include Fabio Coruzzi, Gary John, Carl Smith, and Marco Pittori.
Opening Reception Wednesday, July 11, 6-9pm.
Pop Art is one of the most popular and celebrated forms of art today. The featured artists took this art style to new levels, exploring a new perspective on everyday life. They shook up the art market with bold new combinations, reflecting our changes in society and encouraging a multiplicity of aesthetic and intellectual responses.
Fabio Coruzzi examines the controveries of contemporary culture: modernity includes ugliness, imperfection, and contamination, anything that creates texture. He uses printmaking with mixed media, because art is reality like any other: layered, textural, controversial, open to imagination, colorful, personal, and inspiring.
Gary John has been a street artist since 1985. His works have a whimsical quality inspired by classic cartoon and comic book characters. He has participated in many international gallery exhibitions as well art fairs. He has been collected by art lovers worldwide and has seen a steady rise in international popularity.
Carl Smith works with several layout combinations before creating a finished image. From this image, he selects and transmits specific parts onto a canvas in a screen printing process and further completes his works with oil paint.
Swiss photography artist Marco Pittori has been exhibiting internationally since 1999. His own or the licensed photographs of others (such as Los Angeles paparazzi Brad Elterman) are set in a new context and transformed with the help of strong colors. Realities that seemed irrevocable ask us to question facts and to rethink again.
