ATELIER AKI is delighted to announce its return to Art Central Hong Kong 2019, taking place 27 – 31 March 2019 (VIP Preview / First Night 26 March).
As a significant addition this year, ATELIER AKI will present CHA SEUNGEAN for the first time in Hong Kong as the one and only Korean artist of PROJECT section, curated by Ying Kwok. Ying is an independent curator noted for her inventive curatorial approach which centers on the ‘boundaries of collaboration’ between curators, artists and the wider community. Ying curated the Hong Kong Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. The PROJECT section will present a series of thought-provoking and large-scale installations with 6 cutting-edge artists, featuring ANGELA YUEN (Hong Kong), CHEUK WING NAM (Hong Kong), HERI DONO (Indonesia), LE GIANG (Vietnam), PHUNK (Singapore), and SEUNGEAN CHA (Korea).
Alongside the PROJECT section, ATELIER AKI is excited to introduce a new member to the roaster, LEE SEUNGKOO; an established Korean artist who has been recognized for his prowess in Chinese art scene. Seungkoo is one of the few Korean artists who resides and work in China that has surfaced in the past decade. With his signature canine character 'DDINGGU', Lee's works have been displayed in major cities around the world such as Shanghai and Beijing in China, Mannheim and Stuttgart in Germany, Seoul and many other cities in South Korea. Seungkoo's work has been received very well, in 2007, he won the 1th Preis at the Kunstprojekt Klett-Passage am Hauptbahnhof as well as been collected by the Goethe Institut, Mannheim-Germany, and The Beijing Art Hotel, China.
Better yet, KWON KISOO the leading figure of recent Korean contemporary art scene will return this year with his brand-new works from 2018-2019, which ATELIER AKI has been given the opportunity to present exclusively; majority of these works have not seen the light yet. The artist KANG YEHSINE and LEE YUNHEE will return due to the high demand. Not to mention the recent works of classics with KIM DUKKI, KIM NAMPYO, KWON DAEHOON as well.
ATELIER AKI strives to present highly regarded Korean artists as always, in hopes to spread awareness of the Korean contemporary art scene.
