The Downtown Arts District (DAD) is pleased to announce that the rare modern art collection once exhibited at Disney's Contemporary Resort and donated to the DAD has been purchased by the estate of Russell A. Glotfelty and James Sandidge of Winter Park, FL. The collection is comprised of more than 50 works by 27 male and female artists from across the globe, including world-renowned artists Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, and David Hockney.
As a career gallerist, Mr. Glotfelty stated, "James and I have admired the collection for many years and felt passionate about this acquisition. The intention is to loan the collection to AXIOM Gallery, my Winter Park gallery, for several private and public showings. I feel very strongly that the collection should be displayed in its full curated body of work." Event plans are being finalized by AXIOM's Gallery Director Sorcha Baty and will be announced soon.
This collection was donated in 2014 by Walt Disney Resort to the DAD with all proceeds from an eventual sale to benefit the Downtown Arts District's endowment. Mr. Glotfelty and Mr. Sandidge are proud to continue the legacy established by Walt Disney of supporting the Downtown Arts District endowment with their purchase of this significant collection.
"The Walt Disney World Resort has been a tremendous supporter of the arts community as a whole and we sincerely appreciate their generous donation," stated Barbara Harley, DAD executive director. "The work has been housed and available by private appointments in the Metcalf Building located in downtown Orlando, which has served as the original office of the Walt Disney Company upon arrival to the area."
AXIOM Gallery of Winter Park, FL will be handling all collector inquiries. Please contact the gallery at [email protected]
