Baahng Gallery is pleased to present "into the woods", a solo exhibition, by Jungdong Lee in celebrating "Asia Week New York 2018". Showcasing multiple mixed media works including oil based pen and 3D printing pen drawn vinyl murals each measuring 6 by18 feet long, the exhibition runs from March 19 thru March 31, extended thru April 6.
Jungdong Lee ponders at realities and phenomena that have seemingly emerged in our time which sometimes can be more vivid on smartphone screens. He contemplates on how to accept the conditions of our contemporary life that is overwhelmed with digital world and internet environment: He affirms virtuality as inevitable reality to embrace. The works are, therefore, material metaphors for the ambiguous and opaque boundaries between reality and imagination, seemingly evident in "Forests". And, vinyl, his main medium, is a stage and pictorial surrogate where information and code become physical. To visualize the temporal and spatial conditions of modern life, he farms and mines data and collages them with his own time-lapsed photographs taken from visiting sites: "Tree" were created over 2 years. Lee’s works are, in essence, a slow flow of reincarnated realities where illusions of intrinsic, non-transcendental, self-organized, become a born condition and Jungdong Lee, as an artist, seems to have devised a new visual language representing an aspect of our time.
Jungdong Lee was born 1972 in Busan and received MFA in painting from Hong-Ik University in Seoul. He has exhibited in museums, featured in "Art Radar", and was recipients of grand prizes in prestigious National Art Exhibitions. He currently works and lives in Korea.
