Gallery Weekend Mexico City 2019 - Online Show: The sacraments of light by Gus Murrieta
This exposition aims to bring back from the profane and unholy these experiences to send them into “holy grounds”. It works on portraying day-to-day encounters that challenge and question us on how the sacred can possibly cohabitate with each one of us, even in everyday life.
A dimension that opposes time, an invitation to a ritual and mythical space that questions the immediate reality we know and its perception of light, taking the spectator into a deep reflection about his or her spiritual being. Auto exploration is a human necessity that has derived in the creation of symbolic structures that metaphysically sustain our essence as beings, spiritual formations that question our most sacred subsistence. In this work, Gustavo Murrieta presents to the viewers different divine experiences and reveals symbolic constructions. The above generate awareness that manifest beyond matter. A large amount of this intervention consists on life cycles and the affiliation of life and death. The obsession for the repetition of these gestures have a strong sense of rituals, therefore creating a mystic act. So, Gustavo proposes the employment of a tool he knows all-to-well as a main source of work to open a debate on the varied supernatural encounters: the digital media.
