As if designed from the core of the earth to its surface, the work of Túlio Pinto invades the space with matter, either the exhibition space or of nature itself. It subverts the traditional understanding of sculptural object, of its materials and physics, and brings with it the indelibly traces of history of art. It is impossible to ignore the references of his work to the works of Carl Andre and the minimalists. When refuting the carved, Túlio grants to raw materials a place of matter in his art. Through them, he disrupts the set logic of sculpture, denies the autographic trace and brings these materials to the direct experience, in its raw state, without pretence. This matter is the essencial substance of these works, through which Túlio disrupts the gravity, tests the power of his strength, discusses the balance and its latent state of suspension and strain.
This work moves towards the matter in the world, a state of mind. It rejects the removal of sense of place and retrieves it; rejects the replacemente of the physical space where our bodies are, and redeem them through his artistic wisdom. These works claim, as matter in the world, to restate the matter in the world. In places where these works are plotting, the world is matter – with intense poetic power, it reconstructs each damped space of the world, towards it release.
