Barry Whistler Gallery is pleased to present Works on Paper, a selection of works by ten artists including Terrell James, Otis Jones, Lawrence Lee, Michael Miller, Dan Rizzie, Andrea Rosenberg, Lorraine Tady, John Wilcox, Danny Williams, and Mark Williams.
Most of the works are recent, except for John Wilcox’s subtle wash of yellow on cut paper from 1995. Michael Miller will be represented by over a dozen of his 2010 collaged fabric and painted text works combining iconic imagery and written word. Lawrence Lee’s ink washes and detailed figures are presented on his latest diptych of a motorcycle. Terrell James’ most recent paper pieces continue her combination of lyrical line and fields of color. Lorraine Tady is freshly back from Iceland, having been awarded the Dozier Travel Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art. Her latest large scale work uses her signature blue and black topographical composition with subtle references to her travels. Andrea Rosenberg continues her bold coloring while maintaining her abstracted flower imagery. Otis Jones’ large scale charcoal on paper strikes a subtle balance between a rich textured black wash and quiet white lines. Dan Rizzie continues his mastery of collage with his latest medium-sized work referencing molecular structures. Danny Williams continues to create charcoal and ink drawings of the night scenes from his quiet village outside Paris, France. Three of the drawings presented here are images of the roads outside Paris. Mark Williams’ two large scale oil-on-polypropylene works register almost as prints. Williams’ use of squeegees to pull his nearly-black paint across the paper gives the works a sense of movement and layering.
