ART BERLIN 2018 – BOOTH 3.B.9
27 – 30 SEPTEMBER 2018
Emma Stibbon is among those artists, who have found their own indistinguishable voicebeyond any contemporary isms and styles. Born in 1962 in Münster, Germany, she studiedfirst at ›Portsmouth College of Art‹, gained an education at ›Goldsmith College‹, Londonand at the ›University of the West of England‹ in Bristol, the city, in which she lives andworks today. Her essential realm is nonetheless the fascination of intensive research expeditions.Emma Stibbon works mainly from photographic records and intuitively prepared sketches. Her oeuvre leads us to curious journeys into territories, rarely visited by man: the ice of theArctic, the sand of the desert, remote high mountains or the monsoon of the rainforest. Inher monumental woodcut »Caldera Overlook«, 2017, she takes us, the spectator, with herinto this forest. We witness how the syllogisms of phantasy are shining through its fantasticalceremonial lush foliage, which only nature invents.Emma Stibbon is a member of the Royal Academy, London since 2013.
