Boston, MA, June 11, 2018 - Beacon Gallery is pleased to announce its August show: "La Vie Parisienne." "La Vie Parisienne" is a solo show by the Paris-based British and French artist Rebecca Vincenzi. This show will feature Vincenzi's still lifes as well as scenes from everyday life in Paris.
Vincenzi is an English-born writer and artist. After obtaining a degree in English at London University, Vincenzi studied illustration at St. Martin's school of Art at the Open College of the Arts. While there, she began illustrating and writing children's books, most notably, "The Ice-Cream Moon Feast" and "Fly's House."
After spending years in London, Vincenzi moved to Paris to teach drawing, and at the same time, finished an illustrated novel for adults, titled "London and Paris." It was in Paris where her career as an artist took off.
In 2000, Vincenzi moved to the Goutte d'Or, a neighborhood in Paris with a great number of North African and sub-Saharan residents. Known for its open-air market, le marché Dejean, this close-knit neighborhood was the source for much of Vincenzi's artistic inspiration. Desperately trying to capture the beauty and daily life of her new home, she often sat by cafes and shops, quickly sketching its residents and the neighborhood around them. After sketching what she saw first-hand, she took her sketches back to her studio where she transformed them into remarkable paintings.
After more than 15 years in France, Vincenzi is now a citizen of her adopted homeland, where she continues to show her artwork and write.
Christine O'Donnell, the owner and manager of Beacon Gallery, says "Vincenzi's paintings capture her unique view of Paris - everyday moments, and scenes that often get overlooked. Her vibrant colors and singular perspective make her work an unusual take on the City of Light. I'm delighted to be introducing Rebecca Vincenzi to an American audience."
"La Vie Parisienne" will run through September August 30th. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday 10-5 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 12-5, and by appointment. Rebecca Vincenzi will be present at the opening. For photographs or additional information, please contact Rachel Legault at [email protected] or refer to our website, www.beacongallery.com.
