BEA at Art Wynwood 2017
The Art Wynwood Pavilion, 3001 NE 1st Ave., Miami, FL
CUBAN ART TAKES CENTER STAGE
Joining Art Wynwood’s celebration of Cuban art, BEA features Cuban artist Juan Carlos Rivero-Cintra, an original and skillful draftsman and painter, specialized in the graphic arts in Havana and Paris.
Juan Carlos Rivero-Cintra’s work motivates the viewer to reflect upon the power of memories, while humorously and subtly evoking issues relating to society and politics. In his work, Rivero-Cintra juxtaposes large fruits and vegetables with people, inviting the viewer to question his perceptions of reality and to experience what he has labeled as a “mental displacement.” For Rivero-Cintra, a mental displacement is one that occurs within ourselves, through our thoughts, visions, readings, dreams, and longings, reminding us of the power of the mind and its memories. By using such striking pairings to represent metaphorical journeys, Rivero-Cintra suggests notions of escapism, and the power of our imagination to evoke worlds as close to, or as separate from, the ones in which we currently reside.
Juan Carlos Rivero-Cintra has participated in numerous group and solo shows around the world with great success. He currently resides in Bogota, Colombia and is proudly represented by Beatriz Esguerra Art.
Alongside Rivero-Cintra will be photographers Max Steven Grossman and Mario Arroyave, both creating constructed photography. While Grossman reflects upon the topic of extinction through his imaginary bookscapes, Arroyave expresses his obsession with capturing the passage of time in one instant.
Carolina Convers, a painter and mixed media artist has been researching throughout her career, the evolution of women's roles in society. She creates her works using photographic transfer on acetate, painting and collage, resulting in impacting images that draw the viewer.
Finally, Carlos Alarcon, a fine draftsman and owner of a great sense of humor, brings to the fair his already well known miniature and humorous drawings of animals.
Despite their different perspectives and styles, all five artists are rooted in the land, history, politics and culture of Latin America. All of them manifest an aspect of their heritage in their work, whether directly or with subtlety. At Art Wynwood, we look forward to sharing these artist's works, inviting you to interact with and reflect upon their message.
