14 – 17 April 2016
Beck & Eggeling's presentation at this year's ART COLOGNE (celebrating it's 5oth anniversary) is determined by Aggregation 15-JL038, a large-scale installation by Korean artist Kwang Young Chun, as it's center piece. Being celebrated as the master of paper, Chun's works fascinate with a unique artistic practice, in which he first wraps hand-cut triangles of polystyrene in delicate sheets of printed paper, the traditional mulberry paper, which are then carefully assembled relief-like on canvases or into objects and installations. In his inimitable imagery he concentrates aspects of human existence and a specific Korean sense of tradition and culture into works of immense poetical power.
The presentation will also include new paintings, photographs and works on paper by gallery artists Nikos Aslanidis, Wolf Hamm, Susanne Kühn, Hartmut Neumann, Heribert C. Ottersbach, Katharina Schilling, Stefan à Wengen and Thomas Wrede as well as new sculptural works by artists Aljoscha and Morio Nishimura.
Beck & Eggeling draws the attention to outstanding figurative paintings by Norbert Tadeusz at this year's Art Cologne, whose Estate has been represented by the gallery as of late. Tadeusz is one of the most important German post-war painters and an exciting rediscovery. Furthermore, we are showing works by Düsseldorf-based artist Chris Reinecke, a pupil of Gerhard Hoehme. Reinecke's work is not very well known to the public, despite the fact that she was the originator of artist collective LIDL in the 1960s (which she founded with Jörg Immendorf, her husband at the time). The gallery will host a solo-exhibtion of her work in the summer. In addition, there will be a presentation of selected works by Gerhard Hoehme at Art Cologne 2016. Both Tadeusz and Reinecke attended Hoehme's printing classes at the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie and thus, the show also highlights the creative and intellectual variety originating from the Kunstakademie in the 1960s, which Heinz Mack also visited. Parallel to ART COLOGNE, the gallery is homouring the ouevre of Heinz Mack on the occasion of his his 85th birthday this year, with the exhibition 'Mack. Korrespondenzen' in their Düsseldorf gallery rooms. A selection of various ZERO-works by Heinz Mack will also be on show in Cologne.
