Ján Hrčka represents the youngest generation of graduates of painting in the 4th studio under direction of Prof. Ivan Csudai, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. His work differs from that of his studio colleagues by the stylistic break with the typical Csudai school, which has many representatives in contemporary Slovak painting (for example Erik Sille, David Baffi, Katarina Janeckova, Peter Cvik ...). He moved into the consciousness of a wider public with a series of pictures that dealt with the theme of transience on a large scale and monochrome on the basis of ruins of historical architecture. These generous representations he sculpted almost like a sculpture of thickly applied layers of acrylic paint. At the same time Ján Hrčka is a member of several music bands and therefore his inspiration comes from rock and punk subculture. His representational painting is based on symbolic depictions of his own private influences, be it his circle of friends, music or hobbies.
