Press Release

This is Daniel Brice's second solo show with Bentley Gallery; Brice will attend tomorrow evening's opening reception.

Opening Reception: February 2, 6 - 9pm

Bentley Gallery is excited to present work from Daniel Brice. Drawing on a minimalist vocabulary of color and line, Brice successfully evokes abstracted landscapes of sky and sea, his color planes implying vast spatial expanses of a constantly shifting visual field. The texture of his canvases varies within a single piece. Some areas are thickly worked, drawing the eye to the layers of oil paint used, while other under-painted areas intentionally highlight the untreated edges of stretched burlap.

Inspired by the light, color, and space of Southern California’s coastal landscape, Brice’s paintings hold a translucent glow alongside solid blocks and strips of color. His work often stretches across multiple panels, gently easing his work into sculptural territory.

Daniel Brice attended California State University, Long Beach. He was an Artist-in-Residence at Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 2011, 2009, 2006, and 2004. His work is included in the collections of Allentown Art Museum in Pennsylvania; Ohio Wesleyan University Museum; Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts; the California Endowment, and the Park Hyatt Hotel in San Francisco. Brice currently lives and works in La Crescenta, California.

The exhibition runs through February 24.
