Chen Haoyang’s photographic work Map of the World. The artist keeps using charcoal to structure his materials, and the process of creation is complicated. The artist believes that “materials are endowed with power, and power contains temperature which is naturally limited. We are living in a highly materialised world where the unbalance caused by the elevated temperature is making us anxious and feeble. On the other hand, when our material temperature of is elevated, what we are faced with is the freezing point of our spiritual temperature. How to restore and balance the spiritual temperature demands our cogitation and challenge, and we are not merely challenging the desire of ourselves but also the centralisation and liberty, so as to consummate and balance the spiritual temperature of individual souls.” The artist eventually employs the methods of photography and lamp box installation to present a complete landscape.
Deng Dafei：the Ruins Project. The artist did this creation in the ruins outside the 5th ring road of Beijing, “my creation in the ruins is an effort to construct the bridge between the artistic text and the changeful scenes of society.”
Deng Dafei’s Black Utopia is a work based on a poem composed by the artist in early 2014, and it goes as follows: when all is quiet at dead of night, burn every single verse of the poem somewhere outside the 5th ring road of Beijing, at the crossroads, at the entrance to a village, on a dam, at the end of a highway, in the demolished ruins, in an uninhabited community…
Forever Love 4. Jin Yangping enjoys the disillusion and boredom left in the modernism and socialism, and hence created “B-level Painting”. “B-level Painting” depicts such an inclination: in order to assail the fragility of human nature and the ubiquitous weakness of human spirits in today’s society, it openly distorts and overturns the mainstream values and forms. Even if the power that opposes the driving force collapses, he does not intend to dip himself in the mainstream. This is the so-called “inopportune philosophy”, and to the “B-level artist”, painting is the way he conducts himself.
Artist Liu Jian’s work Unplanned Trip is a set of painting installation. The use of colour and spatial structure are extremely eye-catching, and the work gains lineal shadows in the lighting, comprehensively linking painting, space and installation. The style of creation is quite emancipated, regardless of traditions.
Untitled, a work by the young artist Sun Wenguan, radiates a mystic sense of rites. In an oriental iconic language, the artist uses his own way to state an existence. In the construction of images, the artist shapes the preliminary status of rudiment with an amorphous modelling method; the concrete images are therefore disintegrated to their preliminary stage that exists between life and death. Based on the respect towards images and the sensuous fundament, we can feel the growing and shifting energy embedded in those static pictures.
