Uplift

For the month of August we are excited to present three artists from the United Kingdom: Word To Mother (WTM), Sickboy and Ben Eine. “Uplift” features three artistic friends with roots in graffiti that grew into fine art careers. It’s not easy to translate vandalism and rebellion into the “traditional” art world. All three artists spent years refining their craft and garnering a following by relentlessly “exhibiting” in the streets of the UK. It is safe to assume this is a high risk, low reward approach but all three artists have worked diligently to push themselves and each other to greater heights. This exhibit features work that represents their evolutions very well – WTM expertly intertwines his drawings and text elements amid layers of vivid colors, Sickboy brings us into his surreal world including appearances by his infamous “Temple” and Ben Eine translates his work on outdoor walls to a gallery setting with an installation of concrete primed canvases painted with his unmistakable bold lettering.
