São Paulo - From July 23 to August 13, Blau Projects presents the first of two projects selected by by the #3 C.LAB Merscosul, a curatorship notice focused on young curators that is in its third edition. The curator from Ceará, Natália Quinderé, presents the exhibition Formas de abandonar o corpo - parte I, with around 15 works by two Argentinean artists and four Brazilian ones. During the opening, on the 23rd, there are performances from 13h, by artists María Sábato (Lavagem integral) and Filipe Acácio (Nada machuca).
The C.LAB Mercosul is a notice published annually by Blau Projects, envisioning the stimulation and encouragement of the contemporary Latin-American art by offering support to young curators starting their careers. Each of the two selected projects on the third edition received the financial aid of R$ 15 thousand reais to produce their exhibitions in the gallery.
Curated by Natália Quinderé, Formas de abandonar o corpo - parte I presents about 15 works that intend of reflecting what is there of politics in love in performances, installations, documentaries, videos, drawings and photographs. The exhibition investigates a dilated notion of the love practices by showing pieces by six artists: the Brazilian Filipe Acácio, Mayra Martins Redin, Paula Scamparini and Steffania Paola, and the Argentineans Marcel Gonnet and María Sábato.
According to the curator, "the ensemble of works has multiple overlaid layers: the literal abandonment of the body of the one that comes, the paradoxical choices of our objects of desire, the construction of a space of singular intimacy, the memory of the family, the making follies for love, remembering that there are those who kill and die for it."
C.LAB - Artistic residency
Other than the two curatorial projects selected to be exhibited, the C.LAB Mercosul, in partnership with the PAC - Prácticas Artísticas Contemporáneas project, awarded the curator Thais Gouveia with a research scholarship, that includes a residency in Buenos Aires, where the young curator will have the chance to further her research while living, for approximately 30 days, with 10 more young Latin curators, visiting institutions and ateliers of local artists.
The projects were evaluated and selected by an independent commission, composed by the Venezuelan based in New York, Isabela Villanueva, that acted as assistant curator of the 30th São Paulo International Biennale, the Argentinean Gachi Prieto, gallery owner in Buenos Aires and coordinator of the PAC - Prácticas Artísticas Contemporáneas and the Cuban naturalized Brazilian, Andrés Herdandez, former executive coordinator of the curatorial department of the MAM-SP. The criteria of selection include relevance in the contemporary artistic production panorama, connections and interchange between artists that live and/or work in Latin America, objectivity, feasibility, originality and uniqueness.
Is a doctoral student in Art history and criticism (PPGAV/ EBA/ UFRJ), researching about artist museums. She signed the co-curatorship of Jardim de Inverno, alongside with the then director of the Casa França-Brasil, Pablo León de La Barra, from August to September of 2015. In 2016, with artist Ana Hupe, she develops the curatorial project of Leituras para mover o centro - Hupe's exhibition contemplated with the CCBB contemporary award, in Rio de Janeiro.
Conceived as a project independent from the regular program of exhibitions of Blau Projects, the annual contest C.LAB selects and supports projects of independent curators and artists in an exhibition in the gallery space, strengthening its role of incubator and diffuser of contemporary art. The first edition, in 2014, resulted in the production and exhibition of the projects Ampulheta, by curator Douglas Negrisolli, and (...) pegaríamos as coisas onde elas crescem, pelo meio (...), by curator Galciani Neves. In 2015, the second edition of C.LAB presented as a result the exhibitions Na Iminência, by curator Carolina Soares, and Território, povoação, by curators Gabriel Bogossian and Juliana Gontijo.
Focusing in various languages, such as painting, photography, video, drawing, performance and tridimensional, the gallery is on a space opened to the public since 2013, developed to strengthen the dialog with the public and artists. "Our mission is to support and stimulate young artists, while encouraging the discussion about contemporary art", says Juliana Blau. The artists represented by the gallery are Andrey Zignnatto, Bruno Drolshagen, Éder Oliveira, Laerte Ramos, Marcone Moreira, Maria Lynch, Pedro David, Renata Cruz and Vítor Mizael
