Almost 17 and #werestillhere

From January 23rd through February 23rd, BoxHeart Gallery presents Almost 17 and #werestillhere on exhibit in our main gallery + 2nd & 3rd floors. This large group exhibition and celebration features artwork by 60 artists that have exhibited with us over the past 16 years as well as 17 new artists with exhibitions approaching in 2018 and 2019! The celebration with the artists will be held Saturday, January 27th 6 to 9 pm. It is free and open to the public.

BoxHeart was founded in 1998 by Nicole Capozzi and Joshua Hogan. In 2001 this creative enterprise found a brick and mortar location at 4523 Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood. Inspired by the efforts of artist and gallery owner John Mowder, Capozzi and Hogan sought out his Bloomfield ArtWorks location, met landlords Lester and Rose Wong, and officially opened in June, 2001 with an exhibition and celebration that included every artist that wanted to participate.

Ten years later, Capozzi and Hogan purchased the 4523 Liberty Avenue building and began an endeavor to transform the upper floors into exhibition, studio, and living space. After removing 17 tons of garbage, the third floor became the home of Joshua Hogan's and Sherry Rusinack's art studio and the second floor provided additional exhibition space as well as living area for artist's traveling to Pittsburgh for their exhibit at BoxHeart.

From 2014 through 2017, BoxHeart began taking the show on the road selecting to exhibit with the echo Art Fair in Buffalo New York, the Love Art Fair in Toronto Canada, the Superfine! Art Fair in New York City, and the Aqua Art Fair in Miami Beach Florida. To begin 2018, BoxHeart represented Pittsburgh on the West Coast by exhibiting with the LA Art Show in Los Angeles California.

Now almost 17 years and over 300 exhibitions later, Capozzi and Hogan set their sights to the future. Seventeen new artists have joined BoxHeart's roster and will present exhibitions in 2018 and 2019. They join in on the unfolding story of BoxHeart and its family of artists, many of whom have exhibited multiple times in the gallery's 16 year history. Almost 17 and we're still here. Celebration!
Almost 17 and # we're still here will be on exhibit from January 23rd through February 23, 2018. A celebration with the artists will be held Saturday, January 27th 6 to 9 pm. It is free and open to the public.
