Aqua Art Miami 2019

2019 marks our fifth consecutive year exhibiting in Miami Beach and our fourth year exhibiting with Art Miami’s Aqua Art. With a collection of artworks created in a variety of mediums, from photographic & mixed media collage to oil on panel, from ceramic sculpture to vintage toy assemblage, BoxHeart's collection of curated artworks for Aqua Art Miami Beach showcases the artistic talent we represent and serves as an example of our innovative aesthetic.

We are thrilled to present artwork by four Miami Beach first-timers: Gavin Benjamin, Annie Heisey, Katie Stone, and Renee Tay! BoxHeart is honored to debut Gavin Benjamin’s series “Heads of State”, analog photography on fine art paper collaged with additional materials like mercury glass, diamond dust, and Swarovski crystals. Based on the revolutionary soul of his grandfather and brothers in the village of Guyana, "Heads of State" bestows legacy with the legitimacy, power, and honor it deserves. Annie Heisey's current series of paintings, "Arterial Thread", flit between polished moments of realism and raw areas of brushwork. Her elegant figures inhabit half-realized spaces which begin to disintegrate around them, suggesting the constantly shifting ways in which we view the world around us. Katie Stone’s ceramic sculptures are filled with playful, tongue in cheek comments on the human condition. In her series "The Grass is Greener", Stone uses animals as her main characters to replace, represent, and critique their human counterparts. Renee Tay’s “Wee Wee Naughty Teapots” and “Toy Travelers” assemblage sculptures began in 2016 and have become her art obsession. Using vintage and collectible toys, dolls, figurines, teapots, and more, Tay assembles her objects together adding layers of gesso, paint, and varnish to create what looks like a porcelain sculpture.

Aqua Art Miami takes place in the heart of South Beach within a few blocks from Art Basel. It’s unique environment – a classic South Beach hotel with spacious exhibition rooms that open onto a breezy, intimate courtyard – has become a favorite gathering spot for collectors, curators, and art lovers to discover fresh talent and acquire new works while exchanging cultural ideas and forming meaningful connections.
