From October 3rd through November 10th, BoxHeart Gallery presents Ramon Riley : LOVENEVERENDING on exhibit in our main + 2nd floor galleries. Riley's LOVENEVERENDING explores organic, shared experiences of diverse peoples as a metaphorical bridge from a dim prognosis to finding oneself in the joy of humanity.
Riley, a native of Braddock Pennsylvania, earned his MA at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2013, with a concentration in abstract painting. While Riley’s work draws from realistic study, he utilizes his poured paint foundations to integrate the representational with abstract expression. In 2015, Riley was the featured artist on WQED’s Pittsburgh 360, which spotlighted his solo exhibition, BRADDOCK Coming Home.
A career art teacher at Pine-Richland High School of over 17 years, Riley’s belief in a strong art education in public schools stems from his own testimonial. With his 2014 “Where I Am From” project, Riley connected his Pine-Richland students and students from his Alma Mater, Woodland Hills High School, in a communal studio environment to create artworks, which he showcased in his exhibition. Riley's latest works, a series of laser cut collages, expand on the potential of his process fusing his artwork as a painter and the world of technology.
Recent exhibitions took place at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center in Dallas Texas, Space Gallery in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and Unsmoke Systems Artspace in Braddock Pennsylvania. In 2014 he was the recipient of the Advancing Black Arts Pittsburgh (ABAP) Grant awarded through The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments. His studio is located at Radiant Hall, Nova Place, where he also serves as studio director.
