After the Personal Photo Exhibition VA TUTTO BENE of Andrea Simeone (edited by Federica Paola Capecchi from May 8th to June 2nd, 2019 at Spazio Tadini in Milan), Cabiria Art Gallery presents an exclusive new selection of photographs by the artist here on Artsy
SADAKALO, a reportage that pays tribute to the beauty of women in Bangladesh. A selection of black and white stories, intense portraits of women who offer themselves to the camera with great dignity and who never seem to ask for help but only respect. The absence of color brings attention to faces, pride, places and leads us to the essential. The background is the place where they find themselves and tells us their stories: crushed ethnic groups like the Mundas, untouchable castes, or girls with children living in slums, women walking on drains. Women at the center of history: their eyes cross Andrea's lens and enter into it, the exchange is instantaneous, profound, intimate. The posture they take is serious and composed, their body stiffens, in an almost martial posture: for the local culture the moment of the portrait is such a precious and important moment that they feel they must appear intelligent, firm, proud, always perfect in the pictures. A journey of extraordinary images that reveal the proud and joyful face of Bangladesh. The shots of Andrea Simeone tell stories of women who are fighting: against child brides, against prostitution, against erosion and climate change, against arsenic and the poisoning of groundwater. But at the same time, they reveal and do justice to their charm and their true and meaningful beauty. Women who become protagonists of change, women who live and act in history. Cabiria Art Gallery is a new artistic project, a gallery that has chosen an innovative approach to develop a lively and unusual program of synergies and alternative spaces. Cabiria is based in Milan but moves freely and flexibly, follows the progress and evolution of the different scenarios of contemporary art, adopts a schedule dictated by research, encounters and opportunities.
