Contemporary Master Drawings

Contemporary Master Drawings follows Cade Tompkins Projects’ participation in Master Drawings New York 2018 where works by contemporary masters were on view during the annual week-long celebration of drawings. Contemporary Master artists such as Nancy Friese (American, b. 1948), Daniel Heyman (American, b. 1963), Serena Perrone (American, b. 1979) and other represented gallery artists use a variety of mediums such as graphite, charcoal, watercolor and dyed paper pulp. Drawings are the artist’s first thoughts and ideas to be put down on paper. One may consider drawing the lines of thought as well as the architecture of their work. Tompkins considered the idea of ‘master’ to be applicable to living artists, stretching the limitations of traditional old master, by referencing the refined skill and dedicated commitment to their work.
