"A Welcoming" gathers six different Caribbean artists with works revolving around the theme of the drawing room. The caribBEING House is transformed into a familiar space where each artist combines references from their own upbringing and views on contemporary issues.
Once again, caribBEING joins the Brooklyn Museum for its third month-long residency in conjunction with Target First Saturday, celebrating the arts, culture, and diversity of the Caribbean diaspora. "A Welcoming" gathers a range of Caribbean artists in the diaspora, working with different mediums, exploring and reflecting on the theme of the drawing room, the center of the Caribbean household, more than just a clean room where the homes most beautiful furniture and keepsakes were kept and preserved it is also the focal point for many family’s memories, objects and celebrations. A space you could go to feel both empowered and identified through images and objects collected by the family over time.
