SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - On Wednesday, December 16, "Caribe" will be inaugurated, featuring the latest work of Dominican photographer Karla Read. The opening event will be open to the public and will take place at 6 pm in the cultural space Estudio 68, located at Av. De la Vega Real # 68 of Arroyo Hondo. The museographic proposal will be in charge of the art director Oliver Rivas and curated by Artist Laura Castro.
In her third solo exhibition, the artist continues to explore the possibilities of the portrait and maintains the simplicity and subtlety that identifies her work, reflecting at the same time an interest in producing more ambiguous and optimistic images.
From her photographs and the collection of objects representative of her tropical childhood, she makes her feelings about the Caribbean and her life in it visible. Without conclusive argumentative pretension, her series poses a process of personal reinsertion into her post-exotic reality through the recreation of nostalgic and ambiguous scenes, as was her own childhood. This photographic project is in parallel an installation proposal that explores the physical nature of the images that make it up and its possible formal and conceptual interactions. Through the exhibition of elements used in photographic production and small and large-scale print formats Karla isolates the mnemonic and endows it with a quasi-fairy-tale singularity.
The Show will itinerate in January and will be installed at Casa Quien Gallery.
