The thirteenth-century poem Der Rosendorn serves as an inspiration for the works exhibited at CHART 2021. Schultz initially mistook a photograph of the poem in a newspaper article to be a hole in the page; the gothic letters were cut at the edges resulting in the confusion between positive and negative planes.
The poem describes a conversation between a nun and her vagina. This furthered Schultz’ idea of the hole as a slit in time, suggesting the medieval nun as a contemporary intellectual colleague.
